Salary / Stipend

• The initial gross salary of a Sub Lieutenant in the Indian Navy is approximately ₹1,25,000 per month, inclusive of basic pay and other applicable allowances, as per prevailing rules.
• Candidates appointed as Pilot or Naval Air Operations Officer (Observer – NAOO) will be eligible for a Pilot/NAOO allowance of ₹31,250 per month, which will be payable after successful completion of training.
• Candidates selected for Submarine branches will be entitled to a Submarine Allowance of ₹31,250 per month. This allowance will be admissible only after successful completion of submarine training, in accordance with the extant rules of the Indian Navy.

Selection Process – Indian Navy SSC Officers Recruitment 2026

• The selection process for Indian Navy SSC Officers begins with the shortlisting of applications, which is carried out based on the normalised marks obtained in the qualifying degree. The normalisation of marks is done using the formula prescribed by the Indian Navy, as detailed on the official Join Indian Navy website.
• For candidates who have completed or are in the final year of B.E / B.Tech, marks obtained up to the fifth semester will be considered for shortlisting for the SSB Interview. In the case of candidates with postgraduate qualifications such as M.Sc, MCA, MBA, or M.Tech, marks obtained in all semesters will be taken into account. For candidates who are in the final year of a postgraduate programme, shortlisting will be based on their pre-final year academic performance.
• Shortlisted candidates will be informed about their selection for the SSB Interview through email or SMS, using the contact details provided in the application form. • The change of SSB interview centre is not permitted under any circumstances. Candidates must download the SSB Call-Up Letter upon receiving intimation from the Naval Headquarters through SMS or email.
• No compensation will be admissible in case of any injury sustained during the SSB interview tests. Candidates appearing for the SSB Interview for the first time for a particular type of commission are eligible for reimbursement of AC 3-Tier rail fare. For this purpose, candidates must bring a photocopy of the first page of their bank passbook or a cancelled cheque, clearly mentioning the account holder’s name, account number, and IFSC code, at the time of the interview.

General Information / Instructions – Indian Navy SSC Officers Recruitment 2026

• The vacancies mentioned in the notification are tentative and may be increased or decreased depending on the availability of training slots. Candidates are permitted to submit only one application. In case multiple applications are submitted by a candidate, all applications will be rejected and candidature cancelled.
• Male candidates shortlisted for the Executive Branch (GS(X)) are also eligible to volunteer for the Submarine Arm, subject to medical fitness, availability of vacancies, and service requirements. Candidates opting for this must clearly indicate their preference for submarine specialisation while filling out the online application form. Final selection for submarine specialisation will be subject to successful clearance of submarine medicals after joining the Indian Naval Academy (INA) and prevailing service requirements. Eligible candidates will receive submarine allowance only after successful completion of submarine training, as per existing rules.
• Candidates selected under GS(X) may also be nominated for specialisation in Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) after completion of training at INA, subject to medical fitness and service requirements.
• Candidates holding a Government of India, Ministry of Shipping & Transport Certificate of Competency (Foreign Going) as Second Mate, Mate, or Master, and born between 02 January 1997 and 01 July 2007, are eligible to apply for Executive Branch (General Service) as per notification guidelines. Similarly, candidates holding a Certificate of Competency as First Class Engineer and born between 02 January 1997 and 01 July 2007 may apply for Technical Branch (SSC Engineering) entries. Candidates with a valid CPL issued by DGCA (India) and born between 02 January 2002 and 01 January 2008 are eligible to apply for the Pilot entry, subject to meeting the prescribed eligibility criteria.
• Candidates possessing an NCC ‘C’ Certificate (Naval/Army/Air Wing) with a minimum ‘B’ grade will be granted a 5% relaxation in cut-off marks for shortlisting for SSB, provided they have served for at least two academic years in the Senior Division and the certificate is not dated prior to 01 January 2024. Final selection of such candidates will be subject to verification of the NCC certificate by the concerned DG(NCC) unit. Any false declaration or concealment of information will result in cancellation of candidature at any stage, including training or post-commissioning.
• Candidates must fulfill the prescribed educational qualification with minimum 60% marks before joining INA, Ezhimala by January 2027. Failure to meet the stipulated educational criteria will result in denial of joining. All SSB-recommended candidates are required to inform the Indian Navy of their final degree results via email at officer@navy.gov.in
  on or before 20 December 2026.
• For SSC (Pilot) entry, only a specified number of candidates based on service requirements will be considered for SSB, CPSS, and Aviation Medical Examination. Candidates are advised to verify the physical and medical standards (such as height, leg length, etc.) before selecting this option. Remaining candidates will be considered for other preferences selected by them. Candidates must clearly indicate all preferred branches/cadres, as they will not be considered for any branch not selected in the application.
• No equivalent or alternate engineering streams other than those specifically mentioned in the notification will be considered valid at any stage of the selection process. Candidates with any pending backlogs at the time of document verification at SSB centres will not be allowed to appear for SSB. All SSB-recommended candidates must undergo a medical examination at designated military hospitals. Change of medical centre is not permitted under any circumstances. • Selected candidates will be granted Short Service Commission initially for 12 years, extendable by a maximum of 2 years, subject to service requirements, performance, medical eligibility, and willingness of the officer. Candidates will be inducted in the rank of Sub Lieutenant after clearing the induction medical examination at INA, Ezhimala.
• Only unmarried candidates are eligible for training. Any candidate found to be married or marrying during training will be discharged from service and will be liable to refund all pay, allowances, and training expenses incurred by the Government. If an officer voluntarily withdraws from training or resigns during the probation period, they will be required to refund the cost of training, along with pay and allowances received, including applicable interest.
• The probation period for all branches is two years, commencing from the date of grant of the rank of Sub Lieutenant. During this period, officers may be discharged for unsatisfactory performance at any stage. All officers and cadets will be compulsory members of the Naval Group Insurance Scheme (NGIS), applicable during service and post-retirement as per existing regulations.
• Mere inclusion in the select list or merit list does not guarantee appointment. Empanelment cannot be treated as final selection or an enforceable right to appointment. All vacancies will be filled strictly as per service requirements and statutory guidelines.
