ICF Apprentice Higher Qualification Rule

  • Candidates who possess qualifications higher than 10th/Matric/SSLC, such as a Diploma, Degree, Engineering Degree or Course Completed Act Apprenticeship, are generally not eligible for ICF Act Apprenticeship.
  • Exception : For the MLT (Radiology & Pathology) trade, candidates must have passed Class 12th/HSC with Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Other ICF Apprentice Eligibility Conditions

  • Candidates must be residents of Tamil Nadu and/or registered with a local Employment Exchange in Tamil Nadu, with the registration date not later than the last date of application.
  • This condition does not apply to wards of Railway employees, subject to the prescribed requirements.
  • Wards of Railway employees must provide the Railway employee’s Identity Card/Service Certificate, duly attested by a Gazetted Officer, along with the UMID Card and PPO copy during Document Verification.

The ICF Act Apprentice Selection Process 2026 is primarily based on merit. Candidates are shortlisted according to their Class 10th marks, followed by trade allotment, document verification, medical fitness and execution of the apprenticeship contract.

  1. Merit List
  • The merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained in Class 10th (Std X).
  • For candidates who passed Class 10th during the COVID period and whose marks were awarded under the applicable COVID-related assessment system, proof such as the Class 9th marksheet or Class 10th half-yearly marksheet, duly signed by the Principal, may be considered as prescribed in the notification.

  • If two or more candidates secure equal marks, preference is given to the older candidate.
  • If the candidates have the same date of birth, the candidate who passed Class 10th earlier will be placed higher in the merit list.
  1. Trade Allotment for Freshers
  • Freshers can exercise their preferred trade options. Trade allotment is made according to the candidate’s merit rank and availability of vacancies.
  • Once a trade is allotted, requests for change of trade will not be entertained.
  • Candidates selected under the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) category will be allotted only trades that are permissible for their respective disability category.

  • Ex-ITI candidates will undergo apprenticeship training in the trade for which they possess the required ITI certificate.

  • Candidates are required to produce a Medical Fitness Certificate issued by a Government-authorised doctor not below the rank of Assistant Surgeon during Document Verification.

  • Selected candidates must execute the prescribed Contract of Apprenticeship before joining the training.
  • In the case of a minor candidate, the apprenticeship contract must be executed by the candidate’s guardian as per the applicable guidelines of the Regional Directorate of Apprenticeship Training, Guindy, Chennai.
